6.7 Analyzing Rhetorical Strategies in....

6.7 Analyzing Rhetorical Strategies in Sexual Violence Against Men and Boys

Appeals to Credibility or Character:

The author uses credible sources to back up his claims that he made in his article. For example, The Human Security Report and other credible sources.  He uses the credible sources because he wants to sound more persuading and accurate. He wants people to know that women are not the only victims of sexual violence and that men are also victims.

Appeals to Emotion:

I believe that the author wants people to have sympathy for men since they are not often perceived as the victims. Women are always perceived as the victims of sexual violence, which is not always the case. "It is well known that armed conflict and sexual violence against women and girls often go hand in hand. What is less widely recognized is that armed conflict and its aftermath also bring sexual danger for men and boys." (Russell, 2014) This statement is powerful because men also face sexual violence, not only women!

Appeals to Logic:

The author is trying to shock and inform the audience at the same time. People may not realize it all the time but men are also victims of sexual violence. NOT JUST WOMEN! This may be shocking to some people but it is good to know. Also, the credible sources mentioned in this article makes this article believable.

  1. Wow. What a great topic to cover. Good job integrating a quote in 'Appeals to Emotion.'
