6.5 Analyzing My Own Assumptions

                                                6.5 Analyzing My Own Assumptions

1. What cultural or social values, beliefs, etc., do we share with the society or culture in which the text was written? Why have they endured?

I believe that most of us would agree that people usually think women are the only victims of sexual violence, which is not true. This article is showing people that women are in fact not the only victims of sexual violence. Men/boys are also in danger of sexual violence.

2. What cultural or social values, beliefs, etc., do we not share? Why not?

Like I stated before, we share similar cultural/social values, beliefs, etc. The only idea I can think of is that people would disagree with men/boys being victims of sexual violence (and this is true!)

3. If the text is written in a culture distant or different from our own, what social values, beliefs, etc., connect to or reflect our own culture? What social values, beliefs, etc., can we not see in our own culture?

This article is not really written in a culture distant from our own.

4. If the text is written in our culture but in a different historical time, how have social values, beliefs, etc., developed or changed over time?

With further research, researchers were able to find that men/boys are also victims of sexual violence. Our social values, beliefs, etc have changed over time since most people thought women were the only victims of sexual violence! This has changed over time because we often see men/boys facing sexual violence. For example, in the military, etc.
