1. How would you describe the fears and anxieties being expressed in these comments? What are these commenters afraid of, specifically?

The fears and anxieties expressed are caused by the powerful statements Donald Trump has made regarding illegal immigration. He despises illegal immigrants and is trying to stop them from coming to the United States. Most of the hate comments toward him make it seem like this is the primary reason he is running for president. Most people who do not agree with Donald Trump are afraid that he would close business ties and borders to Mexico. I believe he is doing this to ensure that his fellow Americans feel safe. But in his mind, he doesn't want illegal immigrants taking jobs that are suppose to be for American citizens.

2. What kinds of beliefs and values are represented in these comments? How would you characterize the kinds of values and beliefs being expressed in the comments?

Many illegal immigrants that come to the United States want to live the American Dream, by having more job opportunities and having a better life than they did before. One post specifically showed the beliefs and values that is truly meaningful. This person was raised from an illegal immigrant and they explained how their family had to suffer a lot to actually become an American citizen. This personal experience shows how the majority of illegal immigrants have to struggle to become an American citizen and this is something many other illegal immigrants can relate too. There were many negative comments toward Donald Trump and this just shows that Trump needs to be more sympathetic and caring to illegal immigrants because they endure so many hardships just to have a life everyone deserves.

3. Which commenters came across as the most reasonable? What made them seem reasonable?

I believe that all of the posts can be considered "reasonable" because the majority of them are opinions. It all depends which side you are on. For someone who supports illegal immigration, Anonymous (first post) would come across as one of the most reasonable. For someone who is against illegal immigration like Trump, Jake's post would come across as one of the most reasonable.

4. Which commenters came across as lacking credibility or trustworthiness? Why didn't they seem trustworthy?

Paul agreed with Donald Trump. That is not necessarily a bad thing since everyone has their own opinions but he didn't state any facts. There are no facts in his post and that is why his post is lacking credibility and trustworthiness.

Reflection:

After reading many of my fellow classmates blog posts, I realized that most people agreed on which sources were credible/trustworthy and which ones were not. I remember seeing many people say that Jake was a credible source since he was honest but respectful at the same time. Paul was the complete opposite since he was very rude and only stated his own opinions. This made him sound very biased, which made him a less credible and trustworthy source. I also noticed that most people were against Trump and his ideas. The majority of the comments were hate comments toward Trump. Most of the comments about Trump were negative and it did seem like Trump was only running for president to stop illegal immigration.

The blogs I commented on are as follows: Hunter Murrell and Jorge Luis Pereira

  1. Hi Anthony,

I agree with "Most of the hate comments toward him make it seem like this is the primary reason he is running for president." I had the same notion from reading all the comments. And even though I am quite sure Trump doesn't intend on solely running for president on that based, he does seem to put a significant for effort in addressing the illegal immigration issue.
